i always think that the top of county hall looks like something on the deck of a warship

59::365

first blossom of the year against a grey february sky.

baaaaaaaaaaaaaa ......... is the odd or disreputable member of this group called the white sheep of the family?

58::365

london skyline, dusk.

much as the city is exciting,
much as it intrigues and mystifies and inspires,
much as it scoops you up
and shakes you about
and surprises at every turn,
i sure am glad to leave it behind at the end of each day.

when days like this offer little of inspiration outdoors i'm glad i can rely upon a curiosity or two for my next photo .......

Sunday 26 February 2012

Friday 24 February 2012

54::365

a day to take a closer view .........

54::365

for some reason, no matter what i do i can't get this photo to display the right way up.
however, as it's a view from the sofa this technical hitch seems strangely apt.
i didn't even manage to drink the wine, i was so tired.
i just closed my eyes and fell sound asleep.

hello.

minimalism.

52::365

ok so this one's not edible but it is at least food-related.
the faberge eggs have arrived in london; hurrah!

52::365

must be something about february that makes work a trial ....... so good to get home to ordered peace and quiet .......

Monday 20 February 2012

sticking with this week's unintentional food theme.

today was just one of those days
where i waded through phone calls and e-mails
interruptions and annoyances
and upset people
and imagined i was sitting on top of a hill
in the sunshine
with nothing at all to do all day.

i came home and bashed out the stress
into some home made bread.
warm from the oven with a bit of butter;
there aren't many things in this world better than that.

50::365

a party just isn't a party these days
without traffic light jelly.

50::365

what a fine morning to start the day ....... pity i can't convey the birdsong, the fresh coolness and feeling of spring on it's way ....

Sunday 19 February 2012

49::365

it was a picture postcard sort of morning so a short walk around Arreton ..... in the afternoon much eating and good conversation with family

49::365

a strange day.
a happy visit, and a sad one.
a new baby,
a new home,
an old friend,
family,
wine,
whisky,
and lots of good food.

48::365

a weekend on the isle of wight.
i learned to make rock cakes...

Friday 17 February 2012

48::365

my souvenir from the beach at hamstead ....... it's bigger than it looks!

Wednesday 15 February 2012

46::365

ceiling St Nicholas-in-Castro ......... went to ccm agm (!) this evening followed by short talk on traditional turkish weaving of anatolian nomads - what beautiful stuff

45::365

we have decided that from now on
we are not going to 'do' valentine's day.
and it feels really good.
i saw a queue that wound round the whole card shop
and somehow it all seemed a bit ridiculous.
why set aside one day
to be extra nice to each other,
to say and do what you should do every day?
why wait a whole year
when you should be celebrating every moment?

Tuesday 14 February 2012

i think i have a thing about old doors ....... an attractive mix of function, design and age ....... these ones belong to Newport Minster

44::365

south bank, 6pm.
there's an unreal wind chill here!

Monday 13 February 2012

44::365

Newport goods yard starts to take shape .......

43::365

sunday. i still can't decide whether i like or loathe them.
the sunday evening routine
preparing for the week ahead
monday morning hanging over you
and especially in winter when the daylight's gone and that's the weekend over

but sunday mornings ... that lovely feeling of not having to be busy
of staying in bed just a little bit longer
of lingering over your breakfast, savouring your coffee
and feeling content that the rest of the world is doing just the same.
bliss.

Sunday 12 February 2012

43::365

the Spinnaker tower this evening which i said goodbye to as i raced home to see Countryfile on the IOW ......

Saturday 11 February 2012

42::365

spent the day exploring windsor great park.

we walked for hours
and as the sun went down
the world changed from black and white
to blue and gold and lilac...

42::365

a beautiful afternoon at Arundel - the Castle viewed from the banks of the Arun

Friday 10 February 2012

41::365

we woke up this morning
and everything was white again,
and so quiet.

i could have posted a hundred pictures of the trees here
(but here are some people as well).

a real feel-good friday.
happy weekend!

41::365

en route through Havenstreet ....... i missed the photo of the day having passed on the roadside a magnificent icicle formation - will have another try if it doesn't thaw !!!!

Thursday 9 February 2012

40::365

the nature trail at Brading - looks nice, but was freeeeeezing ....... i was also extremely busy and the day shot by ....... and finally to pottery to end the day creatively .....

40::365

day 40; hurrah!
i can't believe how quickly this year's going by.

today was flat-out, non-stop, crazy busy.
i've been on auto pilot all day.
but coming home
it doesn't take long to forget about it all.

thank you, h.

Wednesday 8 February 2012

39::365

I resorted to a view of the hall window because it was far too cold to go out ....... there was a good programme on TV last night about Ice Age animals - I had every expectation of encountering woolly mammoths on the High Street this evening

38::365

such a busy, busy day.
i felt like i hardly looked away from my screen all day;
i dislike days like this.

so it was so nice to come home to peace,
and quiet,
and pie.
glorious, delicious pie.

mmmm.

Tuesday 7 February 2012

38::365

I have an improved view from the kitchen sink which hints of spring being on its way - my daffs are coming out :o)

37::365

i love the way that when i walk home
the sound of the traffic disappears the moment i turn off the main road
and all i can hear as i walk towards home
is the sound of my footsteps and the snow dripping from the trees.

Monday 6 February 2012

37::365

the gateway of Carisbrooke Castle makes a nice frame for what lies beyond ........ my office! Had hoped for some snow to make the place more picturesque, but had to do with a misty grey damp morning.

Sunday 5 February 2012

36::365

seagull footprints in the snow:
hungerford bridge, london.

sadly most of last night's snow had turned to slush today;
but that didn't mean i didn't have chance to go and make a snow angel
and throw some snowballs
and act like a complete kid
at midnight last night .....

we went to the preview of the lucian freud portraits exhibition today
and then spent most of the afternoon in the pub with friends ...
before slithering home through the slush
to sunday night: ironing, preparing
and wishing it would all last
just a little bit longer .....

36::365

taken from high up in the air looking down on ......... the New Forest? ....... er, no, a moss covered slate tile on the outbuilding in the back yard.

Saturday 4 February 2012

35::365

st andrew's church, farnham.
before the snow.

now everything outside is white
and the whole world looks different.

35::365

confined to barracks today, so the kitchen seemed to offer up a suitable culinary photo ....
